Re-designing district heating networks through innovative CO2 solutions

Abstract One of the main problems current district heating networks is significant heat losses that occur due to high temperature distribution fluid (usually, water in Italian climate conditions). Moreover, ORC- or steam-turbine-based cogeneration power plants, heated directly by condenser ORC cycle resulting low efficiency production section system. Considerable also employed for pumping flow rate through a long ring. In this work, effect replacing with low-temperature CO2 as working network analyzed. Specifically, real installation (the Biogenera-Calenzano network) providing at design conditions 850 kW electricity and 1.7 MW (average) assessed using an experimental data set, simulating equivalent distributed network.
